Extended Family Studio Session at Brush Co Studio | Kansas City Family Photographer

There is something incredibly special about photographing extended family sessions—multiple generations, cousins running around, and the kind of connection that can’t be staged. This recent extended family session at Brush Co Studio in downtown Kansas City was the perfect example of that.

A Bright, Modern Studio Setting

Brush Co Studio is one of my favorite indoor locations in KC for family sessions. The clean white walls, tall windows, and minimal design create a bright, timeless backdrop that keeps the focus where it belongs: on the people. For extended families especially, a studio setting makes coordinating outfits easier and ensures consistent lighting for everyone—from grandparents to toddlers.

The neutral tones of the studio paired beautifully with the family’s soft, cohesive wardrobe choices, giving the entire gallery a polished yet relaxed feel.

Photographing Extended Families with Ease

Extended family sessions can feel intimidating, but they don’t have to be. We start with the larger groupings and gradually break into smaller combinations—grandparents with grandkids, individual family units, cousins together, and sweet candid moments in between. This approach keeps things moving and helps everyone feel comfortable and natural.

Some of my favorite moments from this session were the unscripted ones: kids laughing together, grandparents soaking in the chaos, and those quiet in-between interactions that often become client favorites.

Why Studio Sessions Work So Well for Families

Choosing a studio like Brush Co Studio offers several advantages:

  • Weather-proof (perfect for Kansas City’s unpredictable seasons)
  • Timeless, clean aesthetic that won’t distract from your family
  • Comfortable environment for all ages
  • Consistent lighting for a polished final gallery

For families who want images that feel elevated but still authentic, studio sessions are a great option.

A Gallery Full of Connection

This session was a reminder of why extended family photography is so meaningful. These images aren’t just for today—they’re for future generations. The kind you’ll frame, pass down, and look back on years from now.

If you’re considering an extended family session in Kansas City and love a clean, modern look, Brush Co Studio is an incredible choice.
