Why a Second Photographer is So Valuable on Your Wedding Day | Nichole Storey Photography
Planning your wedding comes with a million little decision, and one that often gets overlooked is whether or not to have a second photographer. As someone who has both led and second shot many weddings, I can confidently say: having a second photographer can make a world of difference in how your day is captured.
Recently, I had the opportunity to second shoot a stunning Catholic wedding, where after, we visited the WWI Memorial in Kansas city for bridal party photos, and it was the perfect reminder of just how valuable this role truly is. Heres why:
1.Two Places at once
Weddings move fast. While the lead photographer is capturing the bride slipping into her dress, a second photographer can be with the groom, photographing candid moments with his groomsmen. During the ceremony, while the lead is focused on your vows, the second shooter can capture the teary- eyed guests, wide shots of the venue, and all the little in-between moments.
At this particular weddings, I was able to focus on groom prep and guest reactions during the ceremony, details that otherwise might be missed.
2.More candids, Less pressure
The second photographer often blends into the background, which means we get a lot of those unscripted, emotional, and joyful moments. These images are often the ones couples treasure most.
While the lead photographer captured the big portraits, I was nearby catching laughter between friends and sweet glances that happened when no one thought the camera was watching.
3.Different perspectives
Two photographers mean two creative eyes. We shoot the same moment from different angles, giving you a more dynamic gallery. One of my favorite images from the WWI Memorial portraits is the couple of the grand stairs sharing a kiss. While the lead was getting a dead on shot, I was able to capture it from a different angle that gave a romantic and artsy feel to the image.
4.Backup and support
Wedding days are unpredictable. Having two professionals ensures nothing important is missed. It's also peace of mind knowing there's a backup in case of equipment failure or unexpected delays. We're a team, and we've got your day covered from every angle.
Thinking of having a second shooter?
Many of my wedding packages include a second shooter for this very reason. I believe your wedding deserves full coverage, from the smallest of details to the biggest moments.
If you're dreaming of a wedding day that's fully captured, let's talk. I'd love to help you create something beautful.
