Top 5 Locations for a Romantic Photo Session

Whether you're newly engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or just want to capture the magic of your love story, the right location can take your couples session from sweet to stunning. As a photographer based in Kansas City, I've had the joy of shooting in some of the city's most beautiful and romantic spots- and today I'm sharing my top favorite locations for a couples session.

These locations offer the perfect mix of natural beauty, charming architecture, and that dreamy light I love to work with.

#1 Loose Park

Loose Park is a classic for a reason. With its lush rose garden, open green spaces, and serene walking paths, it's a romantic dream- especially when the flowers are in full bloom. Whether you're strolling hand-in-hand under the trees or snuggled up on a park bench, there's no shortage of stunning backdrops here.

Best time to shoot: Late afternoon or golden hour for soft, glowing light.

#2 The Nelson-Atkins Museum lawn

Art and elegance meet at the Nelson- Atkins Museum. The iconic columns, wide-open lawns, and famous shuttlecocks offer both playful and sophisticated vibes. I love capturing couples here who want a clean, timeless look with a little artistic flair.

Pro tip: The museum steps at golden hour are absolutely magical.

#3 Liberty Memorial & WWI Museum Grounds

If you want your session to feel epic and romantic, this is your spot. With sweeping city views, stone architecture, and dramatic lighting during sunset, the Liberty Memorial is a go- to for that bold cinematic feel.

Bonus: It's close to Union Station, so we can sneak over there for a few more shots if time allows!

#4 Shawnee Mission Park

For a cozy natural setting with woodsy vibes and hidden pockets of charm, Shawnee Mission Park is a gem. From walking the trails to the beautiful dock views at the lake, it's perfect for couples who love the outdoors but want something more private and peaceful.

Best in: Fall, when the colors are rich and warm.

#5 The Crossroads district

If you're looking for something a little more urban and edgy, the Crossroads has a vibe all its own. Think murals, brick walls, string lights, and a fun laid- back atmosphere. It's ideal for casual sessions with lots of movement, laughter, and a modern twist.

Perfect for: Couples who want a little personality and color in their shoot.

Choosing the Right Spot for You

Each couples is different, and the location should reflect your style and story. When we plan your session, I'll help guide you toward the place that fits your vision best- whether it's golden hour in the park or a fun city stroll with coffee in hand.

Wherever we go, I promise to make the experience relaxed, genuine, and filled with joy.
