Romantic Couples Session at Shawnee Mission Park | Kayla & Billy

There's something magical about early fall in Kansas City, the golden light, the crisp air, and the way nature begins to shift into autumn. Kayla and Billy's September engagement session at Shawnee Mission Park was the perfect blend of romance, laughter, and adventure.


We started their session in one of the wide-open grassy fields that Shawnee Mission Park is known for. The tall grass moved gently in the breeze, creating the dreamiest backdrop. Kayla and Billy were full of joy, playful energy, and sweet moments that made it so easy to capture their connection. Their outfits were perfectly chosen, complimenting the warm natural tones of the field.


As the sun began to dip lower, we made our way down to the dock by the water. The spot is always a favorite for couples sessions at Shawnee Mission Park, it brings a sense of calm and intimacy, especially at golden hour. The light reflected beautifully off the lake, wrapping them in soft, glowing tones. Kayla and Billy leaned into one another, shared quiet smiles, and truly just soaked up the moment together.


Sessions like this are why I love being a Kansas City couples photographer. Shawnee Mission Park offers so many unique backdrops in one location, from grassy fields to wooded trails to serene lakeside views. It's a perfect spot for couples wanting both variety and a touch of nature in their photos.
