Kansas City Fall Engagement Session
Fall engagement sessions are so popular for a reason, the warm colored foliage, the cooler weather, and because they're AMAZING. Luckily, Kansas City has so many great location options, including the lovely Shawnee Mission Park. When Sammi and Spencer decided on Shawnee Mission Park as their ideal location for engagement photos, I was ecstatic! It was the perfect fit for them as a couple. Sammi and Spencer are sweet, easy going, and down to try anything for the shot, which is the EXACT way you get amazing photos! Being able to relax and just have fun in front of the camera isn't easy for everyone, but Sammi and Spencer were total pros and their outfits? Top notch! It's been an honor to have been able to be present for the moment when Spencer got down on a knee and popped the question, to engagement photos, to their upcoming wedding in January and I'm so dang excited!

Couple Q&A:
How did you guys meet?
"We met at UMKC Law school, through our mutual friend. In the first semester, Spencer sat next to Sammi in their Property class, but not because we knew each other - he was late and the seat was open. At first, we were just friends, meeting up to study or go to the same events, but in our second year of law school we got to know each other better. In October of 2022, we met a group of mutual friends out for dinner and drinks and we, again, sat next to each other because the seats were open, but this time we didn't stop talking all night. To those around the table, it was obvious that we would always save a seat for the other after that.
Our first date was after class and homework on the Plaza at Brio Italian Grille. Sammi tried to pay but Spencer was a stubborn gentleman. He set an expensive precedent for many a date night after that."
How did Spencer propose?
"Spencer wanted to surprise Sammi by taking her somewhere beautiful and outdoors. His original plan fell through but he was able to work out a blind-folded walk down a winding stone pathway to propose at what would later become our wedding venue. He kept her on-course as she walked down the path's twists and turns, never letting her stumble. At the end, Sammi's eyes opened under a wooden archway with a stunning nature view. He got down on one knee and Nichole captured our smiles, a forever memory, when he opened the ring box and asked Sammi to marry him. Nichole also guided us through having fun on the grounds of the venue, taking pictures of our best day - so far."
Sammi, what is your favorite thing about Spencer?
"My favorite thing about Spencer is his ability to connect with people and make them feel cared for and listened to. He has always been someone I knew I could trust, never making me nervous and ever supportive so I can always be 100% myself."
Spencer, what is your favorite thing about Sammi?
"My favorite thing about Sammi is that she is always there for me and offers me wonderful advice and encouragement. I know that whatever I am going through, I can always lean on her for support and guidance on how to get through the obstacles I am facing."
What is your favorite thing about wedding planning?
"Our favorite thing about wedding planning has been meeting the vendors and working with them to make our day "ours", meaning we get to ensure it is unique and reflects us, not just a to-do list. This makes each step fun and creative and the results all the more meaningful."
What are you looking forward to most on your big day?
"We are looking forward to having all of our favorite people all in one place, celebrating our family and friend circles growing and getting more connected. It is not often you look around a room and don't see a stranger and feel the happiness and love from each person in attendance."
